Babelbits ("we", "our", or "us") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how our application functions regarding your data. Our philosophy is simple: Your learning data belongs to you and stays on your device.
1. Data Collection & Storage
Local Data Storage
Babelbits is designed as a local-first application. All of your phrases, lists, audio recordings, and learning progress are stored locally on your device's internal storage. We do not automatically upload this data to any external server.
No Account Required
You can use the full functionality of the Babelbits iOS application without creating an account or providing any personal information. We do not track your identity or usage habits attached to a personal profile.
2. Personal Information
We do not collect names, phone numbers, or physical addresses. The only instance where we may handle your email address is if you voluntarily submit a support request or feedback via email. In such cases, your email is used solely to reply to your inquiry.
3. Third-Party Services
While we prioritize local storage, the application interacts with trusted third-party services for specific core functions:
- Apple iCloud: If you have iCloud Backup enabled on your device, your Babelbits local data may be backed up to Apple's servers in accordance with your personal Apple device settings. We do not have access to these backups.
- App Store & Payments: All subscriptions and purchases are processed securely through Apple's App Store. We do not collect or store your credit card information. Apple provides us with anonymous receipt data to verify your Pro status.
- Translation Services: The app utilizes on-device translation APIs where supported. In some legacy configurations, privacy-preserving requests may be made to standard translation endpoints, but no personal identifiers are transmitted with these requests.
4. Children's Privacy
Our application does not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. Since no account is required, minors can assume the same level of local-only privacy as all other users.
